Stripping (coating removal)
Stripping (also called de-metallising) refers to the targeted removal of an already-applied plated layer from a component, for example because the layer does not meet requirements or a further machining step is pending. Depending on the layer removed, this is also called de-nickelling, de-chroming, de-coppering or de-zincing. Stripping is carried out using chemical or electrolytic processes precisely matched to the base material and the layer being removed, so that the substrate is not damaged.
