Intergranular Corrosion (Aluminium)

Intergranular corrosion is a form of corrosion in which primarily the grain boundaries of a material are attacked, while the grain areas remain largely intact. Certain aluminium alloys and unsuitable heat treatments increase susceptibility, which is why appropriate alloy selection and surface protection are important.
