Corrosion Protection and Aluminium Treatment for Automotive & Mobility

Components for the automotive industry must perform reliably over their service life, be reproducible in series production and meet demanding manufacturer specifications. As your development partner, we combine high-performance corrosion protection with solutions for high-strength steels, large-area aluminium body components and electromobility parts.

Overview

Suitable Processes for Automotive & Mobility

Zinc-Nickel offers one of the highest-performing electroplated corrosion protection systems and meets numerous OEM standards required in the automotive industry – from fasteners to chassis parts.

For large-area aluminium body components, cleaning and passivation are a key process step: they create the residue-free, corrosion-protected surface that first makes painting and joining processes reliably possible.

What Automotive Suppliers Come to Us For

Corrosion protection to OEM standards such as BMW GS 90010

Automotive manufacturers define their corrosion protection requirements in their own OEM standards, often with specific salt spray test durations. Zinc-Nickel achieves resistance levels that cover numerous of these specifications – for example BMW GS 90010 ZNNI SI, as listed in the standards directory on our website.

Solution: Zinc-Nickel

Reliably cleaning aluminium body components before painting or joining

Before painting, bonding or joining, large-area aluminium body parts require a residue-free, reproducibly clean surface. Our cleaning systems remove oils, greases and processing residues even on large component geometries.

Solution: Cleaning of Aluminium

Corrosion protection for aluminium body parts as a base for painting

Aluminium naturally forms an oxide layer, but it is uneven and not very durable. Passivation removes this oxide layer and replaces it with a defined, thin, durable conversion coating – additional corrosion protection and, at the same time, a bonding base for the subsequent paint finish.

Solution: Passivation of Aluminium

Reproducible quality over the entire production run

Automotive series often run over several years – the coating must deliver the same quality throughout the entire run. Documented process monitoring and recurring inspections ensure this.

Solution: Quality inspections

Quality & process reliability

Documented Processes for Series Production

Even before series production begins, we develop cross-functional risk analyses (FMEAs). Our quality management system and ongoing product and process monitoring ensure the reproducibility that the automotive industry requires throughout the entire production run.

Our management systems are certified to IATF 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. The certificates document the respective scopes. More on quality and environment.

Approval to the respective OEM standards lies with the manufacturer or its supplier chain. Our contribution is the standard-compliant coating that makes this approval reproducibly possible – with documented process monitoring and the required test evidence.
